The interior of an old church with stained glass windows, TV monitors, and graffiti The Lighthouse, formerly known as the Haze, was originally created by Ibuki Mioda and was intended to be a Fog-aligned helper faction. While the Lighthouse has moved away from overt Fog influence and toward neutrality since Ibuki left, their goal remains the same: to support monster kind and help each person who arrives in Ryslig live as comfortable a life as possible while they're here. Lust and Horatio Hargreeves are the current leaders, and both are willing to answer any questions or address any concerns.

Mission Statement

The Lighthouse aims to be a neutral space for all monsters to come together as a community. The Lighthouse has no official membership; rather, anyone who wants to come is welcome at any Lighthouse gathering. It isn't meant to exist in opposition to any other group in Ryslig. Its goal is to provide support and stability to everyone in Ryslig who wants it, regardless of god affiliation, monster type, or stance on naturalization.

Fighting on the basis of god alignment is strongly discouraged. It is the belief of the Lighthouse that aligning (or not) is a personal choice. Discussion of a person's reasoning is fine, but attempted conversion or mockery is not. Be respectful.

All monster types are welcome, and those who seek out community through the Lighthouse are encouraged to network and set up hunting parties in order to more efficiently share kills if they so desire. They are strongly discouraged from avoiding feeding and risking a massacre from the ensuing madness. It hurts more people than it helps. There are many alternatives that don't involve starving yourself and then going on a rampage. Monsters are by nature obligated to live alongside humans: they cannot live without humans to feed on. If they are to continue to hunt their neighbors without inciting mass anti-monster retaliatory violence, then it should be done thoughtfully. There's a lot more of them than there are monsters in Ryslig, and they've proven they will fight back if they feel it's warranted. Be smart.

Some people are happier in Ryslig. Some enjoy their new monster forms and their new powers. Some escaped a much worse situation. Some would otherwise be dead. The Lighthouse welcomes monsters who would like to eventually return home and supports that desire, but discourages framing it as the only 'right' option. If someone's looking for a group focused solely on escape, the Freedom Fellowship is that way. Not all monsters want to leave, and it isn't anyone's place to judge why. Be kind.

New Arrival Outreach

The Lighthouse focuses on helping new arrivals to Ryslig in the early and often hardest stages of adjusting to their new life. Primarily they offer housing free of charge to anyone who needs it, new arrival or no. Interested parties are welcome to make their way to the 38-8 Apartments (for anyone) and Hestia's Place (for those under eighteen only).

These two locations are also where new monsters can go to pick up care packages; they come included with housing for those that take that option, but are also available to those that would prefer to live elsewhere. The care packages include a briefing pamphlet along with supplies such as non-perishable food, toiletries, warm clothes in the winter months, and a small amount of money and/or vouchers for local businesses. Generally the money is enough to thrift some new clothes, cover a few meals, and maybe pay for a short stay somewhere low-end if your character chooses not to take housing from the Lighthouse.

The care packages also include an up-to-date map of the Bavan area and immediate surroundings, a list of known monster-friendly establishments, and a basic overview of the different potential monsters with instruction to speak to Hawkeye Pierce for more in-depth research. They are intended to be a starter kit to help a new character get on their feet as fast as possible. Any new arrival (or monster that just needs a helping hand) is free to handwave having received one. You are also free to handwave that your care package was missing something if you would rather have your character be without that information (maybe you don't want them to have any info about what they're turning into, for instance).

In addition to being available at the two main locations, Horatio also shows up at each arrival location in the Lighthouse's truckster with brochures, water, first aid kits, and a limited amount of care packages. Any other Lighthouse members are welcome and encouraged to come and lend a hand if they so desire.

The Lighthouse Church

The building is an old Day God church in outer South Bavan that was repurposed by Ibuki to serve as a headquarters. It's about the size of a community church, but has high ceilings with beautiful stained glass windows and crystal work to play well with the sunlight that pours in. On the walls hang banners marked with the old Haze symbol Ibuki originally designed, and where there aren't banners there's graffiti. Ibuki's fog machines, musical instruments and concert gear have been respectfully moved to a side room, and can get taken back out for parties. There are also scattered screens that have been rigged up and hooked to a generator. They can be used to play most anything, such as entertainment or presentations, depending on what the church is being used for.

A rack near the door which once may have held religious tracts now holds a series of informational pamphlets and free handouts: one about what the Lighthouse is and what it does (the contents of this post), a coupon booklet to several local monster-run businesses, maps of the peninsula, a voucher good for free copies of Spengler's Monster Guide (Vol. I & II), and the Acorn Guide: a newcomer's primer on what they can expect.

The Lighthouse's mascot is a blenderbot built by Fiddleford McGucket that wanders the church's grounds unattended. His name is Blendjamin. Be nice to Blendjamin or Horatio will show you his axe.

The church at the moment hosts no official meetings, but would like to start planning regular community gatherings. Suggestions of events are always welcome.
